Vtech Voices bring you: Tips For Encouraging Our Kids to Read

Hola readers!

I want to talk to you about this great VTech V.reader again.
I love it.

Recently, my son & I received the Toy Story 3 game to go in the reader.
He hasn't put it down.
At all.
He's asked to take it to bed with him & in the tub.
Since it isn't water proof & I would like him to sleep I have had to deny him this luxury.

One thing that I am finding that is working on him constantly wanting to play with his reader is I do not turn the tv on.
Not on.
When we come home at the end of the day, I make sure the reader is left somewhere he can see it, I walk past the tv w/o turning it on & he spies the reader.
He then asks to use it.
Sits on the floor behind our coffee table & reads, reads, reads.
I hear him giggling as I cook dinner.

The VTech V.reader definitely keeps him engaged!

Guess what?!?
I have another VTech V.reader to giveaway.

All you need to do is post your tip on how to get your kids to read!
That's it.
This is the mandatory entry.

If you would like one other way to earn an entry, just follow the blog.

EZ PZ, Cottage Cheesy!

*this giveaway ends 8/5 @ 8pm*

**I was given a Vtech V.reader to review, along with some games as compensation.  All opinions are 100% mine and not influenced in any way!**

VTech Voices ~ Family Reading Night & Giveaway!!!

That's right everyone.
This week being part of the VTech Voices team is allowing me to bring you a cool giveaway.
Of course, you are going to have to do a bit of work to get it.

First let's see what we are playing for:
I'm not kidding when I say this VTech Reader is freaking awesome!
Not only will you win one of those, you will get a "game" with it.
Woo hoo!

Here's what you need to do.
You need to come up with your very own Family Reading Night.
It's where the whole fam (or as many are at home) sit down & read together.
Sort of like a Family Home Evening for those LDSers in the crowd (HOLLA!).

I did this with my lil guy & my nephew just last night.
We layed on my bed and they each took turns holding the reader & playing the games that come after the story. It got a little confusing for a bit because, well let's face it they are almost 4 & 4.5yrs old so they are learning about not yelling out answers if the other is asked the question. Sigh.

Both of the boys love this reader. My lil guy will ask to always read it.
This week we were able to read "Dora the Explorer: Dora & the The Little Pigs". What a fun story!!! Not to mention the games are extremely educational but the kids never know it.

I've said it before, reading comprehension is high on my list. I want to make reading/learning fun & VTech has managed to capture that 1,2,3!

So, if you want to enter, here's what ya gotta do:

1. Leave me a comment telling me about your Family Reading Night, where you had it, who participated, how did it go. That sort of thing.

2. Become a follower.

3.  Tweet this giveaway, leave me a link to the tweet. Make sure to use #v.reader hashtag.

Really, that's it.
Just 3 ways.

Also, make sure I have a way of getting in contact with you. If I don't & you win, you'll never know!!

Ok, go!

Giveaway ends 7/30 @ 8pm est.

*This giveaway is sponsered by The Motherhood & VTech. I did receive a free reader & games to review.  All opinions are my own*

Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects....

Recently I was fortunate enough to get to review the book "Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects & Activities for Dads & Kids to Share"

Physically I am not a dad...last time I checked but this book is good for moms too.
What a fun, educational but not in a boring way, book!

The projects range from preschool age to high school age.
A lil something for everyone.  Which works out great for me because Bobster and I have children of every age range covered in this book.  When I was reading it I was focused on activities for the almost 4 year old because he is just constant motion and some days he just needs to slow down.

Cheeks & I really liked the Fireflies for Every Season activity.  All one needs is batteries, 5mm yellow LED's, fabric & electrical tape.  Poof, you are set to enjoy the excitement of fireflies anywhere at any time!

Other activites in this book include:
  • Build an Outdoor Movie Theater
  • Cyborg Jack o' Lanterns
  • Exploding Drink Practical Joke
  • The Science of Composting
  • A Never Ending Demolition Derby
I would definitely check this book out.  Keeps the kids from getting carpal tunnel in their thumbs from all the Xbox & PS2! Ha!

Have you read this book?
Done any activities?

Let me know.

Tell me what book you recommend for stuff to do with kids!

VTech Voices

I am proud to say that I was fortunate enough to be picked as a member of the VTech Voices team!!!

I am fortunate enough to have received a VTech Animated e-Book Reader.
It comes complete with everything you need to set up & the first book you need.

When it arrived Cheeks saw it & was like "Open it! Open it!"

I finally got it open  & set up.
Super easy.
So easy, my soon to be 4yo can do.

We soon settled into our fav reading spot....the couch.
Cheeks snuggled in next to me & we explored the new reader.
Both of us fell in love.

As you can see from the above shot (my camera is broken, this was taken w/ my cell) Cheeks is laying on the couch using his new reader.

This reader has so many wonderful features to it included with the books.
It highlights each word as the book reads to you & has music playing in the background.
As studies have shown music helps with memory.
It even has games that an immergent reader can play by touching the screen if he isn't recognizing words yet.  The games test the child's comprehension of what they just read.  Being an English and Elementary Ed major, reading comprehension is what I am all about & VTech has captured it in this great tool!

The VTech Animated e-Book is currently available at Target only.
Check it out!  I'm telling you as a mommy of a preschooler  you will not be disappointed in this reader.

VTech even has a Summer Reading Pledge.
I signed up....have you? Go here!

Actually what I really want to know is where is your fav place to read?
You?  Your little one(s)? I want to know where everyone in the whole fam likes to read.
Tell me, leave me a comment & let me know!!!

Do you like splits?
No, not the kind that cheerleaders & girls that dance on a pole do
The kind that is yummy, yummy in your tummy!
That's right.....Banana Splits.

Well, Kelly Ripa and Electrolux are joining forces once again to celebrate the launch of Electrolux Appliance's new stand-alone refrigerator and freezer - that's right, the familiar duo has split up. And to sweeten the celebration, they're bringing in the "Emperor of Ice Cream" Stephen Bruce, owner and founder of Serendipity 3, the landmark New York City restaurant and dessert spot, into the mix.

Kelly and Bruce teamed up earlier today to make banana splits for a cause. And now we want you to dig in, with your virtual spoon! Starting today, at, you can build your ultimate banana split using virtual ingredients from classic whipped cream to caramel sauce to rainbow sprinkles. For each "split", Electrolux will donate $1 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund as part of its $750,000 commitment to help fight ovarian cancer.

As usual, Electrolux and Kelly find new and fun ways to say thank you to those who support this great cause. Everyone who logs on to the site and builds a split will be automatically entered for a chance to win the daily prize - $50 towards sweet summer treats - and the grand prize: the new stand-alone refrigerator and freezer from Electrolux.

Ok, how much fun is all that?
First, you are helping out Ovarian Cancer Research & second, you get to build a split & get entered to win great prizes.
No brainer!!
Go check it out!

I am also going to sweeten the deal.
As a little incentive I am going to select one person who builds a split & then comments on this blog what kind of split you build, to win a $25 American Express gift card.

Oh, that's right.
$25 American Express gift card can be in your hot little hands all for building splits & helping Ovarian Cancer Research.

So get to building, then leave me a comment with what you built.
For a second entry, follow my blog.
For a third entry, post about this Electrolux/Kelly-Confidential fun fund raiser on twitter/facebook & leave me a comment with the link to it.

Have fun!

This giveaway is open 'til July 16th @ 8pm est.

*For participating in this campaign I was provided with my own $25 Amex gift card from Mom Select & BSM Media.  All opinions & excitement are my own!*
