It's National Dairy Month...Let's Have a Giveaway!

Remember this sneak peak from my Facebook page?
What?
You don't?

Well you really should go like me on Facebook!  You will have you chance though.

What I want to tell you is that June is National Dairy Month.

Gosh I love, love, love dairy.
I think if I was lactose intolerant I would just eat it anyway & suffer.
That's how much I love dairy.

I especially love yogurt and my latest obsession is Greek Yogurt.

Greek yogurt is made with milk and an active yogurt culture. Actually, it takes about four gallons of milk to make a gallon of Greek yogurt. Like all yogurt, it is a good source of calcium. Before its packaged, Greek yogurt is strained to remove some of the excess whey, resulting in a creamier, thicker, more satisfying yogurt.  Although brands vary, compared to regular non-fat yogurt, Greek yogurt typically has twice as much protein, less sugar, and less lactose.

DID YOU KNOW….that Greek yogurt is….

·         More Filling –The additional protein in Greek yogurt may help you feel fuller, faster.  Studies show that consuming protein, as compared to carbohydrate and fat, promotes stronger feelings of fullness.  Its thick, rich and creamy texture satisfies cravings and helps keep you on your diet.

·         Easier to Digest – Greek yogurt contains less carbohydrates than regular yogurt and therefore less lactose, making it easier to digest for those who are lactose intolerant.  Greek yogurt also contains the good kind of bacteria cultures, which help regulate healthy digestion.

·         A “Do” for Diabetics - Greek yogurt has a naturally lower sugar and carbohydrate content than regular yogurt, which makes it a great choice for diabetics who want a product that meets their nutritional needs while offering great taste.

·         Gluten-free - Greek yogurt is gluten free meaning it has contains no wheat, rye, or barley or other gluten-containing thickeners making it a great dessert alternative for those with Celiac disease.  (Because new product formulations are always occurring, please check product ingredient labels if you need to maintain a gluten-free diet)

Check out this handy dandy conversion chart for converting Greek yogurt:

CONVERSION 101: COOKING WITH GREEK YOGURT
1 cup butter = ¼ cup Greek yogurt + ½ cup butter

1 cup oil = ¾ cup Greek yogurt
 1 cup sour cream = 1 cup Greek yogurt
 1 cup mayonnaise = 1 cup Greek yogurt
 1 cup cream cheese = 1 cup Greek yogurt
 1 cup buttermilk = 2/3 cup Greek yogurt + 1/3 cup milk or buttermilk
 1 cup heavy cream = ½ cup Greek yogurt + ½ cup heavy cream
 1 cup milk = ¼ cup Greek yogurt + ¾ cup milk
 1 cup crème fraiche = 1 cup Greek yogurt

Guest Post: Why You Should Send Your Child to Preschool

I am a strong advocate of preschool.
Not only for the education value your child gets but for the sanity break you get!

Here is a great guest post as to what great benefits preschool has!

Every parent has the option of sending their child to preschool or to wait until kindergarten starts to send their child to school. Sending your young child to toddler school in Irvine is a good idea for many reasons. If you are at the point where you need to make the decision, consider the following things before you keep your child at home.

The Benefits of Preschool

Preschool is a great way to prepare your child for school so that they will not be left behind in the rush of kindergarten or elementary school. First, it gets them ready socially. It is a difficult adjustment for small children to be away from their parents all day. It is also difficult to spend the day with a teacher and other classmates. Preschool will get your child ready for this so they are calm and composed on the first day of kindergarten while other children may be screaming. Preschool also teaches a toddler to sit still and listen to a teacher. They learn to follow instructions and be a good student. They learn to share with others and cooperate in a group setting. Paying attention can be difficult for children of such a young age, so the extra time to learn proper school manners is very helpful. The younger they are when they start, to the more time they have to adjust to the change. While most of preschool may be doing fun things, it is a good adjustment to kindergarten. It also helps prepare children academically. They learn certain motor skills such as cutting and pasting. By doing art, they learn about different colors and what happens when two colors are mixed. Small yet important things can be taught during play.

Finding a Preschool
When you decide to send your child to toddler school in Irvine, find somewhere that you can trust to spend their time well and teach good things to your children. You can ask other parents where they have sent their children and can look online at various reviews. Be sure to visit a place before signing your child up there.

Guest Post: Vital Backpacking Equipment to Have

This is a special guest post.
As my readers know...I do camp.  You know in a RV with a bathroom and a/c.
It's just how I roll.

As for backpacking, well I have big dreams of backpacking through Europe but then I realize I am middle aged and over weight so that dream was shot to crap immediately.

However I have three strong boys ranging from 19 down to six.

So this post is for them, well, you too of course.

Without further adieu:

Backpacking is one of the great American pastimes. One of the reasons that backpacking is so popular among sports enthusiasts is because the United States has such wild, unexplored and remote areas. To the person seeking adventure, there is a plethora of it to be found in the American wild. Before you set out to find adventure, however, you will need a few things to get started. Although even the most strenuous hikes are achievable, the wilderness can prove dangerous and challenging without the proper equipment. This article will discuss what you will need to get started as a backpacker.

The Basics
First of all, you will need a backpack. There are a lot of different packs available, and you should probably try out several in your local sporting goods store to determine which one will work out best for you. One thing to consider is the size of bag in relation to the length of hike you will be going on. If you get a bag that is too big, you will be uncomfortable on the trail, and likely won’t fill the bag enough to warrant its size, or end up over-packing, causing unnecessary fatigue early on. As for help deciding what pack you should get if you are uncertain.

More Basics
The second most important element of staying safe on the trail is having a good sleeping bag. In the high wilderness, nighttime temperatures can plummet to below freezing, even during the summer months. To stay safe you have to get a sleeping bag that is warm enough to handle these temperatures as well as be light enough to haul around a mountain. The only other thing that is critical is your tent. Like your pack, smaller is typically better. When in the wild, your pack serves only as a place to sleep and keep you safe from elements. You won’t be spending a significant amount of time in it so getting a bigger shelter will only add to the weight of your pack. Any good sporting goods store in Baton Rouge should have all of these things and more, so start there rather than shopping online.

Yummy in my Tummy

For those of you who have been reading both of my blogs, you probably know Cheeks has ADHD.  So along with some medicine I am in the process of changing not just his but all of the family's diets.  Much to their chagrin but buck up family, it's good for you.

Recently I had the chance to try some Yummy Health products.

I was excited because these are good for you foods that taste good.  What more could a mom want?  Well a non picky eater for one thing, which I have the ultimate picky eater.

Needless to say he wouldn't try the Yummy Chocolate Bar or the Yummy Snack Chips.

Fine.
Suit yourself.

I'll try them.

I tried the Snack Chips first.  I did sneak them into Cheeks lunch bag for a snack.  He brought them home opened with just two eaten.  I can't say I blame him on that.  The snack chips were not my favorite.  They are 90% cheese, which is awesome.  It's just both Cheeks and I felt they were really powerful flavor.

I like my cheese, as does my 6yo, but these snack chips are dense with cheesy flavor.  Almost like the cheese had been sitting around for a while.  Not my favorite item.

I was sent three samples, and tried all three.  Just not my thing.

Now the Yummy Chocolate Bar...HELLO!  Couldn't taste better.

Imagine my surprise when I bit into it and it tasted like an Almond Joy.  Bring on the chocolate! Yes please! Uno mas por favor.

These are perfect for a mid-morning snack.  They held me over til lunch and tasted so yummy I was disappointed I only brought one with me.  All about moderation though.

Cheeks, he wouldn't touch it.
I have my hands full but remember picky eater is an understatement.

I will definitely buy the Yummy Chocolate bars.  I think to get Cheeks to try them I will remove the wrapper & just use plastic wrap.  He will gobble it up then!

Have you tried anything by Yummy Health?
If so, what?  I'm dying to know!

*Disclaimer: I did not receive compensation for this post.  However I did receive samples to try*

Guest Post: The Key Elements of Feng Shui

Are you struggling to find peace and happiness in your life? The ancient practice of feng shui can help you find the balance necessary to find happiness and reach even your largest goals. How can you
practice feng shui? There are many
books on Feng Shui available that go into great detail explaining the processes of implementing the elements of feng shui. Before you can learn how to implement them, you must understand the five key elements that Feng Shui divides the world into.

Wood
Wood is the first element of feng shui and it is thought to harness the power of creativity. Wood
represents birth, growth, strength, flexibility, and intuition. Like all the other elements, the key is to find a balance in the amount of wood present in your life. Too much can make you feel overwhelmed, stubborn, and inflexible; while too little can create a lack of creativity, depression, or stagnancy. The shapes, colors, and textures of trees, flowers, and plants can bring more wood into your life.

Fire
The second element of feng shui is fire which increases your enthusiasm and leadership skills. However, too much fire can make you agree, irritable, or even impulsive. Without enough fire in your life, you will feel a coldness, lack of self-esteem, and an inability to express yourself. Sunlight and candles, electronic equipment, animal prints, and shades of red can increase the fire in your space.

Earth
Earth is the next element you need to incorporate in your life. Earth has much to do with your physical strength and stability. Perfectly balanced, you will feel order, balance, and sense of being grounded. Too much or too little and you will feel overly heavy/sluggish or disorganized and chaotic. Earth tones, square shapes, and images of landscapes can help ground you.

Metal
Metal is most connected with your mind’s ability to be clear and logical. Metal helps you become more organized, focus, and even righteous. It can also help improve your analytical abilities. Too much metal can result in a person that is too chatty, critical, and one who speaks before thinking. Too little metal and you may become overly cautious, quiet, and unable to focus. How can you incorporate metals? Through the use of items made of iron, aluminum, gold, or silver; rocks and stones; and round or oval shapes.

Water
The final element of feng shui is water which is symbolic of your emotions and spirituality. If you feel unbalanced, overwhelmed, or even lonely, you may have too much or too little water. You’ll recognize the right balance when you feel inspired, insightful, and wise. The learn more about putting these elements into practice in your home, pick up some books on feng shui today!
