Room by Emma Donoghue

This month my book club decided to read Room by Emma Donoghue.

Let me preface this post with:
OMG! This book is fantastic!

Beautifully written by Donoghue, it is heartbreaking, gut wrenching, joyful, suspensful and thrilling all at the same time.

Basically this is a story told by a newly five year old's perspective. He lives in an 11x11 room with his mother. They are prisoners of their capture.

This book captures what many must have thought about the Jaycee Duggard story.

I know that I would have done everything the mom does in this story. I may have lost my mind a time or two. Just being indoors in my own home with my energetic four year old is trying at times.

There were times when I was reading this book that my heart raced and ached. I always had in the back of my mind what I would have done had this been me and my Cheeks. Not an easy thing to imagine. Something I hope is forever the unimaginable.

As we all know there are some pretty sick tickets in this world. Instead of focusing on the villian in this case, Donoghue focuses on the innocent victim. I could hear my little guy telling the story and I saw many similarities between my guy and "Jack."

While I can't relate personally to this story nor would I want to I can say this is one of my top 5 fav stories ever. I would say it's #2!!! Emma Donoghue is a fabulous story teller, her words express pain in a poetic way yet let you know the horror that really exists.

Thank you Emma for writing such a magnificent story.

Yes, I loved this book too. Jack was the ultimate innocent victim, right? Amazing writing. I am telling everyone I know about this book. Seriously.

Loved the book also. What Ma did in the book took so much courage and desperation. I do not know if I could have done what she did.

From Left to Write is giving away a copy of this book:

I also thought it was an amazing story. I'm not so sure I would have fared as well as Ma did! But I have to know...what's #1?

So glad you were touched by ROOM. Interestingly, I'd written it before Jaycee Dugard was discovered: sometimes life does imitate art.

WOW! I'm amazed that Emma wrote this BEFORE Jaycee Dugard was discovered! Crazy!! I don't know that I would have done EVERYTHING Ma did with Jack, (I think I would have lost my mind way before that) but I guess when there's another little person dependent on you to provide, love and entertain, you do what you have to. Excellent post!
