Dark Hope by Monica McGurk : Fab-U-lous! (psst Giveaway too!)

What can I say?
What a book!

I happen to be a fan of YA literature.  I read enough of it when I was a young adult then a few years back, when I went back to school, I had to take a Childhood Lit class.  What a blast.

I went into this book expecting nothing.  I had just read book one of the Beautiful Creatures trilogy, so I had an open mind about reading this.

Dark Hope by Monica McGurk is the first in the ArchAngels Prophecies trilogy.

Book One of the Archangel Prophecies For years, Hope Carmichael, survivor of a shocking child abduction, has lived a sheltered existence under the protection of her fanatically religious father. Now, liberated by her mother, Hope prepares to start life over as a normal kid in an Atlanta, Georgia, high school. Normal, that is, until Hope meets Michael, a gorgeous emancipated teen with a mysterious past and a strong interest in her. Soon, Hope's life is filled with questions. What's behind the angry looks she gets from Lucas, leader of a gang of students? Who's responsible for sending Hope strange valentines inscribed with Bible quotations? How does this relate to the sinister business of human tracking that operates on the periphery of Hope's suburban world? And is Michael really a protector, or something more sinister-and just why does he seem so familiar? In an epic narrative that takes readers from the back streets of Atlanta to the height of Vegas penthouses and beyond, DARK HOPE introduces The Archangel Prophecies, a saga of extraordinary love, vast mythological scope, and great moral urgency

As soon as I opened to page one, chapter one, I was hooked.
Hook, line & sinker.
I am a sucker for stories about heroines.

I also enjoy, immensely, stories created around magic, fairies, angels etc.  Especially if they interact with humans.  This novel gave me human interaction.  While it deals with the ArchAngel and the Fallen Angels, it does not come off as a religious book at all!  The story line deepens as we watch Hope learn what she is really put on this Earth for, while Michael struggles with his feelings for Hope.  I couldn't put this down.

I read it at work (don't tell!), I read it at home and I finished it on the plane to Disney in Orlando (more on that later!).  I also put my copy in our little library at work.  My coworker already nabbed it to read.  I told her you will definitely not be disappointed.  To me, McGurk writes an adult story line centered around teens.  Excellent way for teens to feel part of the adult world, but adults to feel like teens can face anything, no matter what we think.

Whether you are an adult or a young adult, this story is a page turner.  I really never wanted to put it down.  The story also brings attention to the problem going on in the US...human trafficking.  It's sad but reality is, it happens.

Monica McGurk keeps everything tightly together without letting the subplot over shadow the actual narrative.

Now I am dying, dying I tell you, for the second book.  You can bet your sweet bippy I will be buying it as soon as it's available.  I have to know what goes on.

Right now I am reading Texas Fury... Fern Michaels is my guilty pleasure lately. As far as recommendations, though, anything by Margaret George... her historical fictions are off the hook! My fave of hers is The Autobiography of Henry the VIII.
