We all have choices, lets make them Healthy Choices

I must let the public know, Bobster & I, we are overweight.
I know.
It's shocker right.
For those that have never seen a photo of us I am sure you pictured us as Vin Diesel & Cindy Crawford.
Wait?
You didn't.
That must be my own dreams.

I digress.
We need to get healthier.
Both of us.

So in addition to talking weekly walks with the family (yes we do that!) we need to eat better & recently I was given the opportunity to try out a couple Healthy Choice meals.  These work out great for me because I love a hot meal for lunch and even though I have a kitchen at work you can't really "cook" in there unless it's microwavable...which these meals are.  SCORE!
This week at work I tried the Healthy Choice Steaming Entrees Honey Balsamic Chicken (yes I know that is a pic of another entree but work with me).

It cooked in a jiff and it was tasty.  Not to mention it smelled so good that even my coworkers asked what I was eating and who made it.  So I dug in & can I just say "For the love of God, it was delish!!"
Best part, I ate it & drank 2 glasses of water and for the rest of the afternoon I ate nothing else.  I wasn't hungry.

I eat lunch at noon and dinner anywhere between 6pm & 7pm when I get home...I didn't eat until dinner.  Score!  As I am a huge afternoon snacker.

Another night it was just me & Cheeks for dinner.  I am not one to cook elaborate meals for myself & the 4yo so I served someone a grilled cheese with a side of apples and popped on of the Healthy Choice Select Entrees Bacon & Smokey Checken Cheddar meals in the microwave.   I have found mecca!  This has got to be my new fav...it tasty extremely but it wasn't!  Cheesy goodness ready in minutes, with bacon, what more could a girl ask for!

So since the fam is trying to make healthier choices, like walking more, eating healthier and drinking water with only one milk, soda, etc a day I decided to look up some research.  I found:

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese, which puts them at increased risk for heart disease, diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.

Recent research shows that replacing 10 meals per week with a portion-controlled Healthy Choice meal, as part of a reduced calorie diet, can lead to improved quality of life and dietary quality.

The study, conducted during 2009 and 2010, followed more than 60 participants for 30 days with one group primarily eating Healthy Choice meals for lunch and the other group mainly for dinner every day. Participants were also instructed to add 2-3 food items to their diet, such as fruits and vegetables, according to their caloric/gender needs.

Participants in the study:
o Lost an average of six pounds and trimmed their waistlines by about one inch

o Improved the quality of their overall diets by increasing dietary fiber, reducing saturated fat intake by 50 percent and consuming 30 percent less cholesterol and sodium

o Reported an increased sense of well being, having more energy and feeling healthier after just 30 days

The research was presented by the Rippe Lifestyle Institute at the Experimental Biology Conference in April 2011 and funded by ConAgra Foods.

As Americans look for ways to make simple, positive changes to their diets, incorporating a ready-to-eat, pre-portioned healthy option, such as Healthy Choice, is a simple way to be more health conscious, lose weight and improve quality of life.

Healthy Choice has nearly 70 varieties for fewer than 400 calories that provide positive nutrients such as whole grains, fiber, protein and antioxidants. For more information visit www.healthychoice.com.

Brands with “healthy” in their name are held to a higher nutrition standard set by the FDA. Healthy Choice is the only major brand in its category that can call 100% of its products “healthy” as defined by the FDA. This means that each meal must be:

1. Low in fat

2. Low in saturated fat

3. Controlled in sodium and cholesterol

4. Supply at least 10% of the daily value for three beneficial nutrients (calcium, protein, fiber, iron, vitamin A or vitamin C)'

So I will definitely be incorporating more Healthy Choice meals in my weekly diet.  They keep me satisfied, they taste good and they are way healthy for more than say Burger King.  I suggest you check 'em out as well.

Tell me, do you have a fav Healthy Choice meal?

Nessie & Me...a Review & a #Giveaway

Need a cute movie for the little ones to watch, this is the one. Cheeks & I watched it, we liked it, albeit a bit young for my 10 year old boy.  I would say good age range for kids is maybe 3 to 7. Here's a bit about the movie: The Loch Ness Monster has been back in the news following a recent sighting and resurfaced pictures, just in time for the release of family movie  “Nessie & Me,”  which is now available on DVD & VOD, courtesy of Vision Films! When 9-year-old Jamie moves to a beautiful lakeside village, he befriends a grumpy old sea captain who tells him of the lake’s mythical creature named Nessie. The townsfolk don’t believe him, but Jamie wonders if Nessie can be the solution to save the town from a greedy mogul who is buying up land around the lake… if only he can prove that Nessie is real. But sometimes it takes a little bit of magic, and with the help of a mermaid, a treasure map and an unlikely friendship with Nessie the Sea Monster, ...

VTech Voices ~ Family Reading Night & Giveaway!!!

That's right everyone. This week being part of the VTech Voices team is allowing me to bring you a cool giveaway. Of course, you are going to have to do a bit of work to get it. First let's see what we are playing for: "OOOH! AAAH!" I'm not kidding when I say this VTech Reader is freaking awesome! Not only will you win one of those, you will get a "game" with it. Woo hoo! Here's what you need to do. You need to come up with your very own Family Reading Night. It's where the whole fam (or as many are at home) sit down & read together. Sort of like a Family Home Evening for those LDSers in the crowd (HOLLA!). I did this with my lil guy & my nephew just last night. We layed on my bed and they each took turns holding the reader & playing the games that come after the story. It got a little confusing for a bit because, well let's face it they are almost 4 & 4.5yrs old so they are learning about not yelling out an...
