Thanks Phone Solar Charger, You've Saved My Life.

Look at that kid up there.
He loves, loves, loves his amusement parks.

What better time of year, than summer to visit the amusement parks?
I'm a genius, no?

This was taken recently at Storybook Land in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Almost to the shore.
No, wait, it is the shore.

It's a hike from my house is what it is.

Of course, we set out in the morning and I didn't have my phone charged.
I know.
Thankfully I was able to charge it with a phone solar charger

This added to my promise to the family that we were going to go greener this summer.
We really don't have much money to take the kids anywhere fancy or far so we are doing Staycation.

To save on money & be green I:
1.  Pack our lunch in reusable containers, including reusable water bottles.

2.  Bring a reusable bag with us to put dirty linens in (i.e. cloth napkins, utensils, the icky containers)

3.  Of course, we gave the van a good once over, so we don't make it work harder than it should, thus cutting out the admissions etc from leaking in the air.

4.  Also I vowed, unless on the highway, we drive with the windows down.  Not going to lie, this has been the toughest one for me.  I looooooooooooooove my air conditioning.  As does the 5yo who tells me he needs fresh air as the air from outside hits him.  Ha! The child should have grown up in the 70's...I remember no air & having to go on even/odd days to get gas due to the gas crisis.  Did I just give my age away?

I digress.

About 15 minutes into our ride, my phone just shut itself off.

So I broke out the phone solar charger and by the time I got to our destination my phone was good to go.  We even charged the kids on the way back.   Thank goodness for solar power...helps with being green.

Tell me what are you doing when traveling this summer? How are you going to make it as green as possible?

Smurfs: The Lost Village & Psst...a lightening fast Giveaway too!

Smurfs: The Lost Village is coming out April 7th.  That's this weekend.
I don't know about you but I remember when the Smurfs first appeared on the scene.  Way back in the 80's...that's early 80's mind you.  I think I just gave away my age.  Yes, I am that old I remember the original gang.  I even had little Smurf toys.  One was a police officer.  That was because my dad was a police officer.
Enough reminiscing, I am so excited that the Smurfs have stood the test of time and the my child gets to experience them.  At 10 years old, he still likes them.  His favorite Smurf...Papa.  So we are definitely heading to opening weekend to see Smurfs: The Lost Village.
Let us see what this film is all about:
In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil …

Nessie & Me...a Review & a #Giveaway

Need a cute movie for the little ones to watch, this is the one.
Cheeks & I watched it, we liked it, albeit a bit young for my 10 year old boy.  I would say good age range for kids is maybe 3 to 7.

Here's a bit about the movie:

The Loch Ness Monster has been back in the news following a recent sighting and resurfaced pictures, just in time for the release of family movie “Nessie & Me,” which is now available on DVD & VOD, courtesy of Vision Films!
When 9-year-old Jamie moves to a beautiful lakeside village, he befriends a grumpy old sea captain who tells him of the lake’s mythical creature named Nessie. The townsfolk don’t believe him, but Jamie wonders if Nessie can be the solution to save the town from a greedy mogul who is buying up land around the lake… if only he can prove that Nessie is real. But sometimes it takes a little bit of magic, and with the help of a mermaid, a treasure map and an unlikely friendship with Nessie the Sea Monster, Jamie and the people of Lak…
